The Piedmont Triad region is widely known for its legacy rooted in the Civil Rights Movement, led by student and community leadership throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Six students integrated Greensboro Schools in 1957 and four students initiated the sit-in movement in 1960. The members within this region have a strong legacy of embracing and defending equality, which has continued into the present day.
