Indian Land is primarily a residential community, but residents may access a myriad of attractions within the area. Nearby neighborhoods, including Fort Mill, Ballantyne, and Blakeney, provide a variety of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues for the Indian Land community. Lancaster County boasts many historical landmarks including Andrew Jackson State Park, the Waxhaw Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, and Kilburnie, the oldest standing residence.

History

For hundreds of years, the Catawba Indians occupied the land that is now Lancaster County. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1750s, settling between Rum Creek and Twelve Mile Creek. The county was formed in 1785, and it was originally part of the Camden District. There is an effort underway to incorporate the town of Indian Land into a municipality to give it a voice on both the local and state levels. This will ideally control the growth of the town while preserving the charm of this previously rural area.
